Aging and Gait

Falls are the leading cause of accidental death in persons over the age of 65, and many of these falls can be attributed to certain gait disorder such as tripping or Parkinson’s freezing. As the size of the elderly community grows, so does the importance of addressing and quantifying these types of disorders either to prevent or treat the symptoms to save lives and improve the quality of life. The INERTIA team has various projects using the TEMPO system to gather inertial data from patients in order to detect, isolate, and study these dysfunctional gait profiles. The TEMPO system measures body movements and accelerations in attempt to provide the same inertial data available in a multi-million dollar gait lab that can be worn home non-invasively by the patient.
